PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Doug Emhoff, the husband of vice president Kamala Harris, visited Lackawanna and Luzerne counties Monday to campaign on behalf of the Harris-Walz campaign. This comes just 15 days before election day on Nov. 5.
Emhoff went door to door and campaigned in neighborhoods in Scranton. He also stopped by at a local business before making his way to King's College, where he spoke to a group of about 100 supporters.
"I cannot be more proud of her, and I cannot be more proud to be crisscrossing the country myself advocating for her,” said Emhoff.
Throughout his speech, Emhoff touched on a number of campaign points that Harris has mentioned.
Points such as the importance of Pennsylvania in the upcoming election.
"This is a generational decision right here, and you and your neighbors in this state can actually dictate the direction of our country," said Emhoff.
Points such as the policies Harris will enact.
“[A] $50,000 tax deduction, she wants to grow 25 million new small businesses in her first term, which is big; we need more affordable housing," said Emhoff.
Points such as why her opponent would not be a good fit for office.
“[Trump] wrecked the economy when he was president, with the tax cuts for the biggest corporations and billionaires," said Emhoff.
Local Harris supporters say Emhoff’s words resonated with them.
“First of all, I think that it's time that we had a woman president, and it's going to be wonderful to see a man in that first spouse job," said Ben Tielle, an audience member.
“This was great, I'm happy. This is what it should be; we should look for unifying times, not division," said Bob McDonald, an audience member.
