ARCHBALD, Pa. — The kitchen inside Barrett's Pub in Archbald was bustling on Thanksgiving, but not because the restaurant was open for its usual customers.
Volunteers with the Eynon Archbald Lions Club started cooking inside of the pub at 4 a.m.
"We've been cooking up Thanksgiving dinners for 340 people that live in the Archbald area," said Karen Rapoch, the co-chair of the Eynon Archbald Lions Club.
After cooking, they got to work, filling up take out boxes with a Thanksgiving feast.
Once the boxes were filled, they were bagged up and volunteers loaded them into cars to be hand delivered, a tradition that's been around for more than a decade.
"We started it from the beginning when I had Barrett's pub and I am glad the new owners participated and kept the kitchen going for the people that are either live alone or for families that can't afford it," said Shirley Barrett, the co-chair of the Eynon Archbald Lions Club.
"It really is heart warming, it touches your heart and it means so much to all of us," said Rapoch.
Tracy Zaleski and Kathleen Mullen are some of the volunteers who delivered the meals. They say the holiday wouldn't be complete without this.
"I like to meet new people, we usually meet new people in the community that I didn't know before and it's nice because you get to go into their homes and talk a little," said Mullen, a Lions Club member.
"Everybody is happy it's always very positive and I think we are very positive because we enjoy doing it. And the people are so thankful to get it because otherwise maybe they wouldn't be," said Zaleski, a Lions Club member.
A lot to be thankful after spending their Thanksgiving helping others in need.
