One dead after crash in Lackawanna County

Police and fire crews responded to a crash on Hill Street in Jessup before 11 a.m. on Thursday.

JESSUP, Pa. — One person is dead, and another is in the hospital after a crash just before 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in Lackawanna County.

Crews responded to a crash that happened near the intersection of Grassy Island Ave and Hill Street in Jessup. 

A 73-year-old female, whose name has not been released, died in a single-vehicle crash. According to the coroner, she was driving erratically and lost control of her vehicle, striking a pedestrian and then several roadside objects before crashing into a wall.

The pedestrian, whose name has also not been released, is currently in the hospital with hip and collarbone injuries.

According to investigators, it is probable that the woman had an acute medical event that precipitated the crash.

Route 247 has been reopened around 1:30 p.m.
