'Cranksgiving 2023' supports youth shelter

Cyclists came together in Scranton on Saturday to help out a local shelter.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Anthracite Bicycle Coalition joined up with Groove Brewing for "Cranksgiving 2023."

Cyclists hopped on their bikes and went around the city picking up non-perishable food items.

All the food items will go to the NEPA Youth Shelter.

"We will be closed most of the Thanksgiving holiday, but on Monday, which is our final day before we close for the week, we are able to put out food for our kids to take home to their families, especially Thanksgiving-related food, like stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, those kinds of things, so they can take them home and help their family augment their dinner," explained Maureen Maher, executive director of NEPA Youth Shelter.

Any items not used for Thanksgiving will be given to families in need during Christmas.
