LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Firefighters are battling a brush fire of 60 acres in Lackawanna County that started early Sunday.
The fire in a remote corner of the woods on Montage Mountain was spotted in by a life flight helicopter during the evening. Still, crews could not access the area until Sunday morning due to rugged terrain and firefighter safety, DCNR said.
No structures are in danger, Scranton Fire Chief John Judge said.
DCNR says fire officials are working on the 60 acres affected by the fire, aided by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Scranton Fire Department, and mutual aid from Idaho and Minnesota fire crews. Two helicopters are buzzing the scene to try to access and put out the brush fire in Lackawanna County.
No word yet on how much of the brush fire has been contained so far.
