SCRANTON, Pa. — The screen-printing press at We Talk Shirty in Dickson City is cranking out shirts. It's all to show support for Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin.
Scott Bidwell runs the Lackawanna County Information and Alerts Facebook page. he reached out to We Talk Shirty to create the design.
"The ring is part of Scranton's logo, and then we put the heart where your heart is naturally at with Officer Gilmartin's badge number. On the back, we have what is called the thin blue line; we put his last name in place of the line in blue," explained Scott Bidwell.
People have already placed more than 400 pre-orders for shirts and hoodies. The printing company made hundreds more that will be sold during grab-and-go hours.
"This area is very strong, and when the occasion comes, people have to rise to the occasion, and they show up. Everything across the board, every business that is doing something is packed to the max," said Ron Augelli, owner of We Talk Shirty.
Over at Cooper's Seafood House, there wasn't a parking spot to be found at lunchtime. The restaurant is also holding a fundraiser for Detective Gilmartin.
"We are doing a one-pound king crab with French fries and cole slaw for $20; $10 goes to Detective Gilmartin," said general manager Ryan Cooper.
"In the first half hour, we went through 50 pounds, so that was it. We are off to a great start," said owner Paul Cooper.
Everywhere you looked inside Cooper's, plates of crab legs filled the tables. Customers say it's just a small way to support the Scranton Police Department during this time. They came expecting a packed house.
"We thought if we got here for lunch, it would be a little less hectic, but it is good. I am glad a lot of people are showing up, and I hope they continue to come in," said Brian Schuh of Peckville.
Grab-and-go shirt sales at We Talk Shirty will be held at 860 Enterprise Street in Dickson City on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cooper's Seafood House will offer the special on Thursday and Friday.
