Clarks Summit University to close

The announcement was posted Monday on the university's website.

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Because of ongoing financial problems, leaders at Clarks Summit University in Lackawanna County have decided to close the school.

The announcement was posted Monday on the Clarks Summit University website.

Workers and faculty were furloughed last month in an effort to close the university's financial gap.

CSU said in the release that it is committed to helping students navigate this decision as they seek to smoothly transition to another university to continue their education. A teach-out plan is available. Courses will continue until completion for students presently enrolled in summer session courses.

The statement reads, in part:

"Due to these financial circumstances, Clarks Summit University's Board of Trustees has made the difficult and painful decision to begin the process of closure. Clarks Summit University, including Baptist Bible Seminary, is unable to offer classes starting in the fall of 2024."
