LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A mother has been charged in connection with the death of her child in Lackawanna County.
Devon Boone, 35, was charged with homicide last month in the death of 5-year-old Zavier Taylor of Carbondale.
Authorities have now charged Zaire Sheppherd, 37, of Scranton, the child's mother, with endangering the welfare of children and obstruction of administration of law. Police say she failed to report Boone and failed to protect her son from Boone.
Police accused Boone of punching and throwing the child last December. Boone told investigators he and the child were "playfighting," and a short time later, the boy began having trouble breathing.
Taylor died from a traumatic brain injury four days after the assault.
