Celebration of Hindu faith in Scranton

The Ganesh Festival was held at Nay Aug Park in the city.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Hundreds of believers of the Hindu faith celebrated the birth of the god Ganesha in Scranton on Saturday.

The Ganesh Festival at Nay Aug Park in Scranton featured dancing, singing and food.

It's all the celebrate the birth of the deity and caps off a 10 day long celebration.

The festival included a procession of idols through the park, down to Roaring Brook Creek, symbolizing the cycle of life and belief in the return of Ganesha.

"Ganesha, that's why everybody comes here. There's a big celebration because it's a big Ganesha. With Ganesha, there is nothing that can be done without him. Everybody does it. We start with god Ganesha, you will end with god Ganesha," said Daxa Tailor.

Organizers say the festival aims to promote unity and togetherness and was open to those of all religions and beliefs in Scranton.
