CARBONDALE, Pa. — Local legend had a moment in the sun Saturday in Lackawanna County.
The city of Carbondale played host to a festival commemorating the 50th anniversary of a supposed UFO landing in this northern Lackawanna County city.
People packed a downtown market to stock up on out-of-this-world goodies.
Dozens of others took part in a sold-out tour of Russell Park, where 50 years ago, reported UFO sightings and a strange light in a pond gave birth to some of Carbondale's most famous folklore.
Guests played the part of reporters and heard actors tell the tale from the perspectives of harried police officers, stressed newspaper writers, and teenage witnesses.
Some people took the opportunity to dress up as a space visitor.
City officials say they hope to bring the festival back next year.
