DANVILLE, Pa. — A 5-year-old who was critically injured earlier this week in Carbondale has died.
The Montour County Coroner's Office confirmed to Newswatch 16 that the boy died on Wednesday, and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
Carbondale Police say Devon Boone, the boyfriend of the boy's mother, allegedly punched and threw the child.
Boone told investigators he and the child were "playfighting" last Saturday, and a short time later the boy began having trouble breathing.
The boy was being treated at Janet Weis Children's Hospital in Danville, but police said he had no brain activity.
Boone was charged with Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and was arraigned on Tuesday.
At this time, there is no word on if those charges will be upgraded.
