DUNMORE, Pa. — It's not everyday you see a helicopter land in Dunmore. But, this week a group of 68 teenagers are turning into state troopers.
"Every aspect of law enforcement we bring in because we want a well-rounded experience," says Pennsylvania State Trooper Bob Urban.
When they say every aspect, they mean it. The teens have to embrace early alarms and morning workouts.
"They're very nice, most of the time. But they're also very strict, and they help us power through everything we need to get through," laughs Cidney Schaffer of Dalton.
Tuesday, it was a behind-the-scenes look at the Scranton Bomb Squad and the dangers they encounter.
"What they have to wear and what they have to do. And how important it is they have to stay safe during all the things they have to do," says first-time camper Madison Morgan.
The bomb squad tried to blow up a watermelon. While the campers were ready for an explosion, it didn't exactly go to plan. While the watermelon lives to see another day, these kids are learning an invaluable lesson.
"We interact them with those scenarios, just to see real-life experience, how things work," explains Urban.
These teens are taking with them a week full of experiences that will last a lifetime.
"It shows that anybody can do anything they want just as long as they stick to it," says Alize Clasen of Milford.
To always be confident in myself and push myself harder than I know I can, and do my best," added Morgan.
Camp Cadet continues throughout the week in Dunmore.
