Businesses come together to support wounded Scranton detective

Businesses throughout Lackawanna County have shown an outpouring of support for Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Many businesses have come together in a show of support for Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin, who was shot in the line of duty Thursday morning.

As Detective Gilmartin remains in the hospital, businesses all throughout Lackawanna County have stepped up to help the wounded hero and his family.

Villa Maria delivered lunch on Friday and hosted a pasta lunch at the restaurant on Washburn Street on Saturday afternoon.

"Each and every day that they go out there, they put their lives on the line. And we know one bullet could change generations of a family's life," said Lori Macciocco, Villa Maria Restaurant.

Pandarella's Breakfast and Lunch in Dunmore is hosting a Pancakes for Police special on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for the wounded detective and his family.

Zummo's Cafe along Marion Street in Scranton donated 10 percent of its proceeds Saturday to Detective Gilmartin and his family. On top of that, the owners plan to match the amount collected.

The support reaches beyond the city limits. Jitty Joe's Ice Cream in Moosic is offering free ice cream to all law enforcement officers on Saturday and Sunday, and a special menu item will be offered in honor of Detective Gilmartin. 

On Monday, the shop will donate 25 percent of its sales to the detective and his family.

More fundraising efforts and events benefitting Detective Gilmartin and his family can be found below:

  • Fratelli's Pizza & Pasta House will donate 10 percent of all gift card sales to the family of injured Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin. Gift cards can be purchased at the restaurant Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Pandarella's Breakfast & Lunch will host a Pancakes for Police event from Jan. 12 through 14.
  • Lynn Sandy's Bakery will donate 100 percent of sales from their $2 Scranton police-themed cupcakes in honor of Det. Gilmartin to the family. The cupcakes are available for purchase in-store and to order from Jan. 13 to 14.
  • Jitty Joe's is offering free ice cream to all law enforcement officers who show their badge on Jan. 13 and 14. On Monday, Jan. 15, Jitty Joe's will donate 25 percent of the proceeds to Det. Gilmartin and his family. A special menu item will be offered in honor of the officer.
  • Fusion Hair Design will match and donate 10 percent of all service, retail, and gift card sales on Jan. 13 and 16 to Detective Gilmartin's family.
  • Cooper's Seafood House will have a King Crab Sale from Jan. 17 through 19. For every pound of King Crab sold, Cooper's Seafood House will donate $10 to directly support Detective Kyle Gilmartin and his family.
  • Alexander's Salon & Spa will donate 10 percent of haircut services and 10% of retail sales on Jan. 17 and 18 to Det. Gilmartin's family.
  • Vidaro's Pizza & Bites in Blakely will donate 25 percent of its sales On Thursday, January 18, to Detective Gilmartin’s family.
  • Pasquale's Pizzeria and Family Restaurant in Archbald will donate 10 percent of all gift card sales directly to Scranton Police Detective Gilmartin from January 13 until January 28. Cash donations will also be accepted. Gift cards can be purchased & donations can be dropped off in person at 485 Main St. Eynon, PA 18403
  • Pane's Garage will donate $10 from every state inspection for the months of January and February.
