SCRANTON, Pa. — Scranton Prep hosted Valley View in a high school basketball game Monday night, which doubled as a fundraiser for Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin.

Both teams encouraged donations to support the Scranton Police Department.

Just before game time, booster club parents estimated that more than $1,500 had been raised for the officer and his family.

"We far exceeded our expectations. Coming in, I think we had an idea in our mind of what we wanted to give to Officer GIlmartin and his family, but people have been so generous, both communities," said Laine Martin, Scranton Prep Booster Club.

Booster Club parents tell Newswatch 16 that Scranton police officers often attend Scranton Prep games, and this fundraiser is their way of giving back.

Scranton Prep won Monday night's game against Valley View 61-50.
