EAST STROUDSBURG -- An assistant principal in the East Stroudsburg Area School District is in legal trouble for allegedly assaulting a police officer over the weekend.
The East Stroudsburg Area School Board is expected to address the status of the assistant high school principal at a meeting Monday night.
Police in Lackawanna County say when they arrived at the home of David Evans early Saturday morning, he was so drunk and out of control, it took three officers and a stun gun to subdue him.
People we spoke with in the East Stroudsburg Area School District say that's not the way they expect an assistant principal to act.
David Evans is charged with aggravated assault for fighting with a police officer at his home in Lackawanna County.
East Stroudsburg Superintendent Sharon Laverdure says Evans is expected to be put on unpaid administrative leave at Monday night's school board meeting.
"Decisions will be made as facts come out," she said.
Medics were called to Evans' home on Hickory Street in Peckville Saturday morning because Evans was throwing up.
Court papers show that police later arrived and found Evans shouting obscenities and trying to flip the kitchen table. He then shoved and punched an officer in the neck.
Police say Evans was so out of control, the chief had to use a stun gun to subdue him.
Police found out later that Evans is an assistant high school principal in East Stroudsburg.
"That is shocking," said East Stroudsburg resident Linda Fellner. "It's disappointing, and I would have to say disgusting. That is going to bode bad on the school that is going to influence the kids."
Some say they agree with the district's decision to put Evans on unpaid leave.
"You have to consider his position, you know, as a very prominent part of the community," said Dave Fellner.
Evans was released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court next Monday.
