SCRANTON, Pa. — Andy Wallace, a former Lackawanna County Chief of Staff and convicted sex offender, was nearly two months late registering a new SUV with the state police, troopers said in a criminal complaint.

Wallace, the 71-year-old longtime aide to former Senator Arlen Specter, told Trooper Jeffrey Sokso he did not know Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law only gives him three days to update his vehicle information with the state police, according to an affidavit. He bought a new Toyota 4Runner on March 1 and stopped in at the barracks Tuesday for his yearly verification.

Wallace now faces a new felony charge for failing to timely update his information. A message left Wednesday with Wallace seeking comment was not returned.

Wallace was sentenced in 2019 to 90 days of house because he admitted he tried to perform a sex act on an 18-year-old worker at a discount store in 2018. A judge ordered he register as a sex offender for 15 years.

Wallace resigned from his position as the county chief of staff when the investigation came to light. He was named chief of staff in January 2016.

Before that, he spent three decades working for Specter, who died in 2012.
