Adoption Day in Lackawanna County

The Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services celebrated Adoption Day on Friday, as six foster children officially joined their forever families.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Good things take time. That time has led to a new beginning for six foster children in northeastern Pennsylvania. On Friday, Lackawanna County celebrated Adoption Day, a special occasion where families officially welcomed their new children into their homes.

"There's no better day here in Lackawanna County Court than Adoption Day," said Lackawanna County Judge Frank Ruggiero.

Staff from the Office of Youth and Family Services dressed up and transformed the judge's chambers as six foster care children officially joined their new families.

"Jonathan, a bundle of joy," said Coron, an adoptive father.

Coron and his wife adopted Jonathan. A decision they say completes their family.

"It's been a long journey, but it's a lot, you know. But now, it's a piece of a puzzle, you know, and it's all coming together."

For Lisa and her husband, brothers Leland and Lucas bring their family to an even dozen.

"The two boys that we've adopted, we've had them for a year now. Starting in December, we'll have one more little boy to go through, and then I'll have 13 kids all together, and I'm excited," said Lisa.

Lisa says the opportunity to give the boys the home they deserve pushed her to start adopting.

"They no longer can worry about that old journey that they had," said Lisa. "Now they have a new one, where they can start over, refresh."

Now Lisa says she can give them the life they deserve.

"Traveling, going to Disney, showing them things that they've never seen before," said Lisa.
