BLAKELY, Pa. — Dawn Karam is the founder of Adopt A Boxer Rescue. Over the past twenty years, the non-profit has saved thousands of dogs like Bud.
"It's a long road, but I'll never stop helping the dogs, the cats, or any animal I see; they deserve so much better," said Karam.
Bud is living the good life in his forever home. He's spoiled and sits wherever he pleases.
Since Adopt A Boxer Rescue started, Dawn has run the operation out of her home until now.
"I'm just thrilled to be able to have a place in the community, not just in my home or a volunteer's home, and people will maybe feel more welcoming coming into a facility than a home," said Karam.
Adopt A Boxer Rescue's new headquarters is on West Lackawanna Avenue in Blakely. On Friday night, volunteers with the organization are celebrating the occasion and the 20 years of being a savior to these wiggle butts.
"We're just going to show the community that we're here this Friday night and just say, come on, meet us. Maybe you'll get more involved knowing we're right here," added Karam.
The rescue is always looking for volunteers, regardless of the size of the gesture.
"Whether it's a ride to the vet, or it's picking a dog up at a puppy mill, helping us do applications, helping us here at the store, walking a dog. Whatever it is, it helps," explained Karam.
Every little piece of the puzzle helps them do what they do. They'll continue this selfless work for years to come.
"Dogs deserve better; there's nothing that makes me feel better than taking a dog out of a bad situation and turning his life from a bad situation to a great situation."
If you'd like to attend Adopt A Boxer Rescue's birthday celebration. It's set for Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its new headquarters on West Lackawanna Avenue in Blakely.
