HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Abington Heights High School Mock Trial Team on Saturday won its third state championship in four years, said Daniel Cummins, one of the team's attorney advisors.
In just under six weeks, they'll have a chance to argue they're the best in the nation.
The teenaged litigators from Lackawanna County tackled a fictional murder case in a made up corner of the Commonwealth.
The case wasn't real.
But, when the winners were announced, the din of applause inside a Dauphin County courtroom very much was.
The team members practiced since October, Cummins said. In the semi-finals, they bested Henderson High School, from West Goshen and Chester County. In the finals, they defeated Spring Grove High School from Spring Grove, York County.
The journey, however, isn't over. On May 3 and 4, they'll be in Wilmington, Delaware, to compete for a national title, Cummins said.
In 2021, they ended up placing 24th in nationals. In 2022, they came in 14th.
