DICKSON CITY, Pa. — SCRANTON, PA. --- The 2024 Golden Living Expo will soon fill the center court and tree court at the Viewmont Mall in Lackawanna County.
Seniors can stop by and learn about programs provided by Lehigh Valley Hospital, Geisinger Healthplan, and Meals on Wheels of NEPA.
These programs provide everything from medical insurance to fresh, home-delivered meals.
"I think it's a great event to host for seniors because there are not a lot of events like this in the area, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to reach out to the seniors in the area," said Rosemary Bohenek, the Viewmont Mall marketing coordinator.
Meals on Wheels of NEPA is just one of 31 organizations participating in the expo. The agency provides fresh and frozen home-delivered meals to elderly and disabled adults in NEPA.
Lindsay Skripka, executive director of Meals on Wheels of NEPA, says it's just one of many programs seniors are excited to learn about.
"And that's really the driving force of having events like this. It's that feedback that we get from the participants there. There are a lot of programs and information that they just didn't know existed, so that's why it's really important to have these outreach events and to communicate our offerings to the community," Skripka said.
The 2024 Golden Living Expo will also provide health services like blood pressure screenings and health screening for seniors.
There will also be government agencies, veterans services, and senior housing information available.
The doors will open an hour earlier, at 10 a.m., just for the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
