Tree lighting in Throop celebrates 10 years

Volunteer Hose Company of Throop hosted the annual event Saturday night along Dunmore Street in the borough.

THROOP, Pa. — A community in Lackawanna County got in the holiday spirit Saturday night.

The Volunteer Hose Company of Throop hosted their annual Christmas tree lighting along Dunmore Street in the borough.

There were treats for both kids and adults, and Santa came out to the lighting as well.

Organizers say the tree is something the community can enjoy throughout the holiday season.

"The tree represents unity, as far as I feel, and it's something for someone to come here, take a picture, just look at it, we encourage that, we welcome that, that's what we're here for," said Throop Fire Chief Andy Hegedus.

This was the 10th annual Christmas tree lighting in Lackawanna County.
