LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Mysterious drone sightings were reported earlier this week in New Jersey. Similar sightings have also been reported in New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania, but what are they really?
We asked a few people with extensive experience flying drones what they think.
"I've been flying drones since 2010,” said Paul Charbonnet, the owner of Atmosphere Drones.
"I went through multiple drones since 2016," said John Lubeck, the owner of NEPA Drone.
"I've been flying for just over 10 years now," said Jonathan Edwards, the owner of 570 Drone.
This is what they said when we asked them about those flying objects in the sky spotted across our region.
"Everything I've seen, I don't even think most of them are drones. I think most of them are manned aircraft," said Charbonnet.
"I think it's a nighttime illusion. Maybe I'm thinking a majority of these are manned aircraft," said Lubeck.
"I saw one image that was clearly a plane. You know, it was so obvious, but other things that were very clearly drones," said Edwards.
However, they all agree that it's tough to know for sure exactly what is shown in some of the videos and images online.
"Some, they're so far away, they're taking pictures it looks like a mile away, you can't judge something that far, they're taking pictures through tree branches, there's no way to know what they are," said Lubeck.
"There could be people out there that are just joining in on the fun and flying a drone just to be part of it," said Charbonnet.
"I think it's a healthy mix. People mistaking what they see for what they want to see, and people seeing things that are very legitimately not supposed to be there," said Edwards.
The FBI is currently investigating these aircraft sightings. If these are drones, the Pentagon does not believe these are drones or activity from another country.
