What happens before the gates open at the Bloomsburg Fair?

Have you ever wondered what goes on at the Bloomsburg Fair before your favorite vendors open for the day? A lot happens behind the scenes.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — While it may look empty at the Bloomsburg Fair, there's a lot going on behind the scenes.  The animals are wide awake, and so are the people showing them.

"What time is the show?  9 am.  So, what time do you start this process?  Sue: 7ish.  Betty:  Quarter after 4," Sue Wynings and Betty Bronson said.

Betty Bronson of Bloomsburg brought 35 goats to show at the fair.

"We bring in my milkers the morning of the show, so we're just getting them all checked in.  We check health charts, we check tattoos, and we match all of our paperwork," Bronson said.

While most of the food stands don't open until mid-morning, many of the vendors are still on the fairgrounds getting things ready for what they hope is a busy day.

"Our pits burn pretty much 24/7," Jeremy Limerick said.

Jeremy Limerick of Brody's BBQ spent the morning reloading wood.

"I was up about 5:15 this morning, and my pit master gets here about 1 am because, yeah, we cook a fresh product every single day.  There's really only someone not here for about two hours every day," Limerick said.

But some vendors are open bright and early.

"We get here around 6 am to get everything prepared," Haleigh Bogart said.

Karschner's Concessions is one of several food vendors open for breakfast.  That makes for long days at the Bloomsburg Fair.

"You guys are open all day, too!  Yes, until about 9 pm, depending on the crowd," Bogart said.

The Bloomsburg Fair runs through Saturday.
