BERWICK, Pa. — It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Berwick. Trees and lights are starting to fill up plots on Market Street.
"We work on it all year long, really, but we really start the set up within the last three weeks, and yesterday all of the big trucks came out and got all of these buildings out and gave us a good start," said John DeFinnis, Berwick Christmas Boulevard.
Volunteers are busy braving the cold weather and wind, getting this stretch of road ready for people to drive through and see over 10,000 lights.
"This year, we started a tradition in the last 5 years or so where people can walk it, and the first people will be walking it, and then the cars will follow," said DeFinnis.
It's for the Berwick Christmas Boulevard. The Christmas showcase is in its 77th year.
Preparation for the boulevard started on Saturday. The stretch of lights and Christmas decorations is about one mile.
"So many aspects that go into it, but we will be here all week long, putting lights on trees and making sure everything works," said Patsy Bowers, president of Berwick Boulevard Association.
As for new additions to this year's Christmas Boulevard, "Well you're gonna have to come by and see that for yourself, yes there will be a couple new things we always like to add a few new things every year, a little bit different there are traditional things of course but every year we try to add something new so you're gonna have to come and see what's new this year," said Bowers.
The grand opening of this year's Berwick Christmas Boulevard is this Saturday, December 7th, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
