Route 487 reopens after tanker truck crash

A tanker truck driver is in the hospital after a rollover crash in Columbia County Wednesday morning.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Pa. — Update:

Route 487 reopened around 5:45 p.m. after that crash in Columbia County.

Part of a state road is closed in Columbia and Northumberland Counties while crews work on a tanker truck crash.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on state Route 487 in Franklin Township in Columbia County.

According to police, a fuel delivery driver fell asleep at the wheel.

He was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

The road is closed in both directions between Orchard Drive/Ashton Hollow Road in Franklin Township and Route 54 in Ralpho Township, Northumberland County.

Detours are in place for passenger and commercial traffic while crews clean up between 300 and 1,000 gallons of fuel that spilled during the crash in Columbia County.
