BERWICK, Pa. — At West Berwick Elementary School in Columbia County, Mrs. Terdiman's second-grade class is still receiving Valentine's Day goodies from all over the world.
Terdiman got the idea for the "We Love the World" project from a Facebook group for second-grade teachers across the world called '2nd Grade Smiles'.
Since making the post last month, asking her followers to send in valentines, it has been shared over a thousand times.
"It was 259 or 256 shares the next morning, and I could not believe it, and it just kept increasing and increasing by the end of that Monday. I did it on a Sunday. By the end of that Monday, it was over 500. By the end of two days later, it was 700. I mean, it just -- I was shocked," said Kathryn Terdiman, West Berwick Elementary Second grade teacher.
Mrs. Terdiman's 2nd-grade class got Valentine's cards from all 50 states and even outside of the country. Going as far as Australia. They thank and love everyone around the world.
And the world showed love right back. Valentine's cards and goodies came pouring in just a week after Mrs. Terdiman's initial post.
Each second grader received a clip-on koala bear from Australia. They also received duckies from Texas with cowboy hats along with a "Texas-sized" Hershey bar, a license plate from Georgia, and even a cake from the King of King Cakes in New Orleans.
But the project has done more than satisfy the second graders' sweet tooth.
"They have learned so much, mapping skills, history, geography, and most importantly, they've learned that it only takes one person to make a difference in the life of someone else," added Terdiman.
Thanks to the power of the internet, students are still receiving Valentines from countries like Italy, Spain, Thailand, and Japan, 26 countries and counting.
