COLUMBIA COUNTY, Pa. โ Strawberry season is here, and people packed the fields at Rohrbach's Farm near Catawissa on Monday. The farm opened its fields for strawberry picking last week.
"It has been extraordinary picking, probably some of the best picking we've ever seen, so people are really enjoying their time, and it's not taking them long at all," said owner Denise Bosworth.
Bosworth says strawberry season started about a week and a half early this year. She believes it's because of the weather.
"We had a couple of days of really nice rain, and then it just switched over to hot, humid weather. Everything ripened really fast, so we had a really unexpected, very fast start to strawberry season," Bosworth said.
People of all ages picked strawberries on this day, and many have plans for how they'll use them.
"Me and my mom decided to make some jam and we came to Rohrbach's Farm to pick out some strawberries. We were fascinated by the quality and quantity of the strawberries," Lesia Sheremeta said.
"Picking some good strawberries for strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie," Karen Swartz said.
Rohrbach's Farm has nearly four acres of pick-your-own strawberries. Bosworth believes they will have another two good weeks of strawberry picking this season.
"This week, for sure. Next week, a lot is going to depend on how this week's weather goes," Bosworth said.
Rohrbach's Farm has a strawberry-picking hotline, which updates daily at 570-543-2211.
