BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Dozens of girls gathered at W.W. Evans Elementary School in Bloomsburg this week, even though they are on summer vacation. They are there for Camp Girls on the Run, a female empowerment organization for girls.
"I think it's really fun. It's not just about running. You learn life lessons. I think those are really neat," Paisley Carr said.
"We paint, and we make pierogies, and we made brownies," Adelaide Wolinsky said.
This week, the girls have a special project—a mural.
"It was really fun, and it was also interesting because we've never done a mural before," Frankie Andreacci said.
The mural says, "Start Small, Dream Big." With the help of muralist Sara Bordner, the girls have been painting it all week.
"I did one of the pink stars and a second coating of the leaf," Carr said.
Girls on the Run Coach Libby Barnett had the idea for the mural last year. She helped raise more than $3,000 for the project.
"Seeing a project that we put in the works—it's over a year in the making—come to life, it's pretty special. Especially since it's something that is going to be on our school building for years to come and for our whole community to enjoy," Barnett said.
The mural was made possible through community donations.
