BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — When it comes to restaurants in Bloomsburg, there are a lot to choose from. The same goes for food trucks. The town's current food-vending ordinance has been in place since 2018.
"We allowed hot dog carts and other vendors that had a mobile type of car to vend from our streets," said Kyle Bauman, Bloomsburg code enforcement officer.
Over the years, that moved into allowing food trucks. Bloomsburg Town Council members are considering changing the ordinance to allow for more vendors and longer sale hours.
"We're now moving away from the main street and putting them more in our municipal lots, so the vendors would have more of a first-come, first-served basis. It wouldn't be allocated to them specifically," Bauman said.
If the proposed changes are approved, vendors could sell in more spots, such as commercial and residential properties.
"I would love for it to be easier for the people who have been contributing to our area for the last 14 years. I think Em's Pink Wieners has been doing it since 2010," said Tanner Dilg, owner of Fourth Taco.
Fourth Taco is both a restaurant on Main Street and a food truck. Dilg says parking can be tricky in town. He sees it from both sides.
"As a storefront business owner, I definitely understand not wanting to lose precious parking spots to people. As a food truck owner, I wish everything was a little bit easier. I think the ordinance needs to be changed a little bit more in order to benefit everybody," Dilg said.
Bloomsburg Towns Council plans to discuss updating the food vending ordinance at next week's meeting.
