BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Spring is less than two weeks away, and with temperatures climbing into the 60s this week, people are spending time outdoors.
Some folks in Bloomsburg took advantage of the warmer temperatures by checking out BART, the Bloomsburg Area Recreational Trail.
"This is very nice because you're away from the traffic. Where I'm at, you almost have to be along the road, so it's nice coming down here for that," Deborah Houser said.
The trail is about two miles long and can be used for walking, running, and cycling. It opened last fall and has been busy ever since.
"I cross-train, running and biking. It's really important. I'm glad they did it, and I know a lot of people use this, too," Tim Kelchner said.
The project was funded with grant money and American Rescue Funds. Officials plan to add benches along the trail and bike rentals.
People tell Newswatch 16 they like the safety aspect.
"I do feel a lot safer using this trail," Dawn Dzoh said. "I've actually been run off this road more than once by vehicles without the trail. Traffic goes really fast down this road. It's one long stretch. I use it every day when I can."
"It's nice what they did down here with the fences and down by the river, and it will be nice when the leaves come in in the fall. I like it," Steve Parks said.
Parks has one complaint.
"I don't like how they shut the road down being one way. It used to be two ways. I don't like that. And there's a really nice covered bridge up here that you have to go through town to get to now."
Officials hope to expand the Bloomsburg Area Recreational Trail to other parts of town. It is scheduled to have a grand opening next month.
