BLOOMSBURG -- A big reason people go to the Bloomsburg Fair is for the food, and every year the fair tries to come up with new foods for people to try.
There are more than 1,000 vendors at the Bloomsburg Fair, and many of them sell food. In other words, deciding what and where to eat can be a tough choice, especially when there are the old staples and new vendors.
For some fair-goers the dining experience is just as important as the food. Meet Sofia, the double-decker bus. The stand is called Double D Bus Cafe, and they specialize in fish and chips.
"We have a kitchen downstairs. We have one booth for four people in case you're a senior citizen or someone who can't get up the stairs. It's a spiral staircase. On the second floor we have seven booths, enough for 28 people," Peter Hellgren said.
The stand's owner says the bus is air-conditioned, and plays Beatles music, so fair-goers can stay cool and get the full British experience.
If you are in the mood for hot food, you may want to check out In Flames. The stand specializes in spicy foods like buffalo chicken spaghetti.
"There's buffalo chicken pierogies dipped in hot sauce. There's fire balls which are pepper jack cheese wrapped in dough and dipped in hot sauce," Kelsee Dunn said.
One new vendor is taking a Bloomsburg Fair staple and turning it into something unique. Gubba's 5 Kinda Fries specializes in what it calls Heart Attack Fries: fries covered in bacon, ham, and mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
"They don't really cause a heart attack, do they?"
"No. Maybe for some people. I hope not," Greg Heberling said.
"Not too concerned with calories at the Bloomsburg Fair, right?"
"Oh no, that's what it's there for," Shiloe Drumheller said.
The guys selling the Heart Attack Fries told me they say a prayer every time someone buys them. All of those stands are located on 11th and 12th Streets inside the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.
