MILLVILLE -- Some people in Columbia County will need to find another place to do their banking, and the bank that's closing in Millville dates back to the turn of the 20th century.
Old photographs and century-old trinkets cover a table at M&T Bank in Millville. The artifacts are on display at the bank, showing off its history. The bank's history in Millville dates back to 1900 and has plenty of longtime customers.
"Well, I'm 85 years old now. Since I was probably 18,19 years old," Charlie Butz said.
Sadly for M&T Bank's customers, the Millville branch will close for good on April 24.
"I am totally disabled. I'm not supposed to be walking that much without canes or my walker. For me to come here is quite convenient," Evelyn Janney said.
This is one of only two banks in Millville. It opened in 1900 as "First National Bank of Millville" and moved to its current location in 1914. Customers must now decide where to do their banking.
"I have a business so I'm going to have to look at opening another checking account, I suppose, somewhere for the business and the personal. Very inconvenient," Michael Soltis said.
M&T Bank says it is closing this location and several others because of downsizing. The company recommends people who come here to either do their banking in Bloomsburg or Danville.
"To here it was only five miles and I'll probably have to go ten miles now, twice as far," Carl Schaefer said.
