Man convicted on long list of animal cruelty charges

Philip Malencore is guilty of 29 cruelty charges in Columbia County. Authorities removed birds, sheep, rabbits, dogs, a miniature horse, and a donkey from his home.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Pa. — A man from Columbia County facing a long list of animal cruelty charges has been found guilty.

Philip Malencore, 64, of Briar Creek Township, was found guilty last week of multiple animal cruelty charges after a bench trial in Columbia County.

A judge found Malencore guilty of 29 charges, including counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and neglect of animals.

In 2021, authorities with the SPCA took more than 150 animals off his property over concerns for their well-being. The round-up included birds, sheep, rabbits, dogs, a miniature horse, and a donkey that was in very bad shape.

The SPCA said these animals did not have access to water or food.

Malencore is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
