Learning during winter break in Bloomsburg

Families are finding many opportunities for fun and learning during winter break at the Bloomsburg Children's Museum.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — There's a lot more than meets the eye to this archeological dig taking place here at the Bloomsburg Children's Museum.

For some, it's a full-circle moment.

"I was here first when I was very, very little. And so when we were gonna come back up for Christmas to visit my parents. They suggested we come back here with, you know, their grandkids, my two boys, and I thought that'd be a good idea," said Jacob Hiserman, a Muncy native visiting from Alabama.

Jacob Hiserman's family is one of many coming here to explore and learn during the holiday break.

"I could really see your kids like interact and learn about lots of different things. So we get to interact with a with a lot of other kids too," he added.

"It's a great week because typically these kids are off school, families are looking for something to do," explained museum director Ginny Weibel. "So we make sure that we supply plenty of things for the families to do."

Including what the museum calls its 'winter camps' down the street.

"We get to learn a lot about STEM," said camper Grayson Laughlin of Bloomsburg.

"We teach kids how electricity works, how these motors run, teaches them practical skills. As long as handy information in a very fun way for them to to learn new things. These kids are all around playing paper airplanes, having fun and learning them and educate themselves about a lot of fun topics," explained camp assistant Dylan Smith.

If you're looking for something to do on New Year's Eve with your family, the Bloomsburg Children's Museum invites you to its 'Countdown to Noon.'

"We have a balloon drop. We have live music, as well as a DJ. We have Princess Belle coming to have the kids take part in her party too. So we have lots of crafts, and we just have a good time," said Weibel. More details about the event can be found here.
