MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP -- Update: According to PennDOT, all lanes of Interstate 80 were open as of 9:15 p.m.
Part of Interstate 80 was closed for hours near the Luzerne/Columbia County line due to a crash and traffic was backed up for miles.
State police said two vehicles collided on Interstate 80 east near the Mainville/Mifflinville exit around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Troopers said a car was headed west and crossed into the opposite lanes where it was hit by an RV. The driver, a 30-year-old woman from Mechanicsburg was killed.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed between exit 242 (Mainville/Mifflinville) and exit 256 (Conyngham).
"Well unfortunately you hate to hear that whenever it happens and I'm sorry for everyone inconvenienced, but obviously the police have to do a lot of work, too, and investigate the situation and find out what happened," said Bill Englemann from Indiana.
"I've been stuck in traffic many times. You just have to be understanding and patient and wait until they do their job," said Edward Michael of Nescopeck.
Jim Wannamaker from New York was near the crash. He said it's a sad situation and urged other drivers to be cautious.
"I drive about 75,000 miles a year and I've seen my share of accidents, so people need to be more conscious of what's going on, on the roads and who is around them," said Jim Wannamaker from New York.
People who were in the RV had minor injuries.
State police believe the weather may be to blame, but the cause is still under investigation.
