BERWICK, Pa. — They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Well, inside the Jackson mansion in Berwick, each holiday decoration is worth that and then some.
"We like to do historical homes during Christmas time. You get to see you know how the decorations are done and just what it was like to live in a different period during the holiday season," said Lynn Feola of Hazleton.
The mansion was built by Colonel Clarence Jackson in the 1870s after his service in the Civil War. It sits on North Market Street in Berwick, where the Berwick Historical Society has been holding tours throughout the holiday season.
"Well, I think if we don't preserve our past, our future kind of doesn't have much meaning. So to see the way it's decorated and think about your own home and your own decorations and your own traditions, I think it's just pretty special," said Feola.
The final Christmas mansion tour will be this Saturday, but if you can't make it to the final tour of the season, you can always stop by the David A. Sadock House across the street.
"We formally opened it in June of this past year," explained volunteer Marilyn Gibbons.
The Sadock house is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday by appointment only. It offers a glimpse of all the history this place in Columbia County holds.
"We have things about our theaters about some of the ice manufacturing companies that canal boats, bridges of the of the river up many which were taken away by the early days when they were just the covered bridges," added Gibbons.
