Covered Bridge Festival kicks off in Bloomsburg

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker stopped by the event in its 42nd year.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — There is a little something for every arts and crafts lover at the 42nd annual Covered Bridge Festival in Columbia County

With over 300 vendors, this is one of the state's largest craft shows.

"We've been coming every year since it was at Knoebels, and this keeps growing year and year. Every year it gets bigger and bigger, we've only made it halfway through so far, we've been here since 11, so it's great, great--great weather too, great day," Mike Dovidio of Blakeslee.

Four years ago, the festival organized by the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau moved to the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.

"My sister is from Reno, and so she missed the fair this year, so this was a good thing to come to," said Sani Hock from Millville.

The four-day event usually brings in over a 100,000 people. Vendors say it's already busy.

"There is a bunch of foot traffic out here, like people are like wall to wall--or I guess arm to arm walking down so it's nice that it's a Thursday, so people are working but there's still so many people here today," said Sara Stokes of Serenity by Sara.

"For a Thursday it is quite busy today, and we hope that carries through the rest of the three days so, but the weather's gonna cooperate hopefully so," said Robert Hontz, Terrace Wood Crafts.

People are taking in all of the crafts. Some have their eyes on a few items.

"Just odds and ends really right now, saw a lot of things, we'll probably go back to and end up getting on our way out," said Dovidio.

The Covered Bridge Festival runs through Sunday at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.
