Camel rides return to the Bloomsburg Fair

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker takes us to the Bloomsburg Fair to discover the unique attraction.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Pa. — The Bloomsburg Fair has the Skyride and carnival rides, but there is also a camel ride attraction that kids and adults can enjoy.

"This is our first year at the fair, so we're excited to be here when the weather's nice. We don't do camel rides in the rain, so maybe next year we'll have a tent, but for the safety of our animals, we don't do camel rides in the rain, so a lot of kids come out here and do camel rides, it's a great experience, it's fun for us," said Earl Stoltzfus, Green Horse Farm camel rides.

For $15, children and adults can ride Oscar, the six-year-old camel. Oscar lives on Earl Stoltzfus' farm in Northumberland County. During the camel rides, you will learn some facts about Oscar and other camels.

"We do two laps, we do like one, all of it is a slow ride, it's a very slow ride we don't go fast so we do one lap and then we stop for a picture, and then we do one more slow lap, and we try to make it educational for the people that are riding if they have any questions, we love questions so we have their camel answers ready when they ask," said Stoltzfus.

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker even got to go for a ride!

Sarah Nearhoof and her daughter Emma saw the camel ride on Monday but couldn't go on due to the rain. They decided to return to the fair to experience their first camel ride.

"My parents went to Dubai in January and sent Emma pictures of camels, so I think she wore her camel shirt today just to ride the camel; she was very excited; it was a very exciting and awesome experience," said Sarah Nearhoof, Danville.

This was also Adalyn Cope's first time riding a camel. Cope tells us she's always dreamed of riding a camel like Oscar.

"Because it looks cool to ride them, and I could be on top of the world," said Adalyn Cope, Wapwallopen.

The camel rides will be here at the fair in Columbia County until Saturday.
