BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Bloomsburg University has announced it will shift all instruction to remote learning effective Monday, August 31, for all courses in progress.
This comes after university officials reported 90 positive COVID-19 cases, more than doubling since Monday.
"Seeing that uptick in the number, we knew it was time to make the transition to online instruction only at this time," said Bloomsburg University spokesperson Tom McGuire.
McGuire says students will be allowed to stay on campus to avoid technology issues. Students who go home will be reimbursed for their room and board. The majority of the buildings on campus will stay open, including the student health center and dining halls.
Students we spoke with are not happy about the decision.
"It's really short notice. It's very difficult to put that on students who are holding four, five, six classes on their heads, especially with being online," said sophomore Breela Farley.
"The university should reimburse students if they're going to do fully online classes. I think that the fact that they're the same price as an in-person class insinuates that it is equal value, which I definitely do not think that it is," said senior Patrick Dorsey.
The BU Residence Life staff members and community assistants will be working with all on-campus students to guide and support them during this time.
The determination regarding classes scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 7, will be made no later than Monday, September 21.
