BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Kids from the Lewisburg area spent the day playing and learning on a field trip to the Bloomsburg Children's Museum.
Last year, more than 40,000 people came through the museum.
"We have a lot of people who faithfully come here. We have families from New Jersey who have memberships with us. When they come here on vacation, they stop and see us," said Ginny Weibel, Bloomsburg Children's Museum Director.
This year is a special one for the Bloomsburg Children's Museum. The nonprofit is celebrating its 40th year!
"But we're more than just a place too. We run mobile programming throughout 15 counties in Pennsylvania," said Weibel.
Director Ginny Weibel says that's how the museum was created in 1984. It started as a traveling museum with handmade displays. It has been in its current location on Seventh Street in Bloomsburg since 2002.
Weibel says there are plans to expand the museum into a bigger space, "We're very unique in that we're regional; we have a regional feel to it. We have a comfortable mom-and-pop feel to us, but we also have world-class exhibitions and events and programs."
The museum will host a community birthday party this summer.
"We're going to bring our exhibits to life. We're going to pull some of our older exhibits out of storage that we still have. We still have our first-ever exhibit, Optical Illusions, and that's going to be on display for our 40th birthday party as well," said Shelby Kellner, Bloomsburg Children's Museum Assistant Director.
Employees say you can support the Bloomsburg Children's Museum by stopping by and visiting.
It is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
