BERWICK -- A Berwick native is making his hometown proud.

"It just gave this town an upbeat feeling," said Geraldine Wozniak of Berwick.

"It's almost like he's our hometown hero. It's awesome to see him on TV," said Lexi Fries, a Berwick high school student.

Jayson Terdiman is representing team USA at the winter games in Sochi.

His sport of choice is the luge.

For those in the Berwick area, they've made Terdiman's accomplishment a reason to celebrate.

"We've decorated our school, we've thrown pep rallies and stuff and everybody in the schools, teachers and everybody, have team Terdiman t-shirts and we wore them last week. So, it's been fun," said Fries.

Terdiman's former teacher, Bob Calarco said, "I think he had a sense of what he wanted to accomplish and we he worked very hard towards those goals, as is evident of his recent success in joining the Olympic team."

Jeri Wozniak held a viewing party for Terdiman's first run on the track.

She's known the Olympian since he was seven.

"His goal as a senior in high school was to make the Olympic team and it's pretty neat that he made his dream a reality," said Wozniak.

The owner of this Berwick stop says Terdiman is an inspiration for younger athletes.

"He obtained his goal and it shows you that it can be done," said Geraldine Wozniak.

Wozniak and many others in the area believe the world will be seeing more of this Berwick native.

"I think he has a long career ahead of him, hopefully another Olympic run here," said Wozniak.

Terdiman and his teammate came in 11th place in the Men's Luge Doubles on Wednesday.

However, Terdiman did qualify for the Relay Luge event on Thursday.
