BERWICK -- A longtime holiday tradition kicks off tomorrow in Columbia County. Today marked the final preparations for the 67th annual Berwick Christmas Boulevard.
From putting up Christmas trees, to stringing lights, people in Columbia County spent the day getting ready for Berwick Christmas Boulevard.
It is the 67th year for the event, which is a mile-long stretch of Christmas lights, trees and decorations on Market Street in Berwick.
"We`ve got the garland, your typical garland. We`ve got some little Christmas balls and we`re getting some lights up. Of course purple is our color, so you`ll know our block," Amber Lee of Agape said.
Berwick Christmas Boulevard is put together by the Berwick Jaycees, and organizers say it is the longest running Christmas lights display in northeastern Pennsylvania. Businesses and community groups turn Market Street into a winter wonderland.
One of those groups is the 14th Street Elementary School.
"Our theme is The Lemonade War. Our principal Dr. Morrison is involved with One Book One Community, where the entire community is going to be reading The Lemonade War, so our plot is to get people excited about that book," Jen Carroll said.
The event is organized so people can drive down Market Street at night and check out the Christmas lights. Many people say it is a tradition for their families.
"It was something we used to do as a family. Every year we`d go up and down the boulevard with my dad and my mom," Patricia Donnelly said.
"As a kid when it would snow we would walk up and down the boulevard. It was pretty neat," Carroll said.
Organizers say Christmas Boulevard will run every night from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. until the week after New Year`s.
