LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — A man from New York is awaiting a date with a Clinton County judge for allegedly leading state police on a high speed chase last week that seriously injured his passenger.

Amaury Madera, 42, of the Bronx, wouldn't pull his car over June 26 on Interstate 80 East in Lamar Township, according to a criminal complaint filed by Cpl. Daniel Woody. The Milton barracks announced his arrest Wednesday.

Madera ended up crashing near Exit 199 in West Buffalo Township in Union County while fleeing from pursuing troopers at speeds topping out at 110 mph. He swerved to avoid spikes set up to stop him and ended up losing control.

His Toyota Corolla overturned and hit a tree, according to a criminal complaint.

Madera was unharmed, state police said. His passenger, Arangelis Tena, suffered serious injuries.

Tena, 47, of the Bronx, was flown by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Her condition Wednesday was not immediately known.

The chase started shortly before 11 a.m. when  Trooper Hunter Hall noticed the car's registration was expired. State police also discovered the license plate does not correspond to the vehicle.

Hall turned his lights and sirens on by mile marker 178 in Lamar Township and Madera sped up. The chase continued for roughly 20 miles before Madera's flight came to a sudden end, according to arrest paperwork.

Madera is charged with fleeing police and aggravated assault by vehicle, among other offenses. He was denied bail and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

He's scheduled for a formal arraignment Aug. 13 in Clinton County Court.
