Visitors flock to Jim Thorpe

October's rain washed out much of Jim Thorpe's Fall Foliage Festival, but visitors and businesses are looking forward to clear skies ahead.

JIM THORPE, Pa. — Friday night saw family and friends gather in Jim Thorpe after a streak of several poor weather weekends finally broke.

"Yeah, there has been some ugly weekend weather, but yeah, this one is super. Nice blue sky, big moon up there at night," said Dave Barskey, Pottstown.

Dave Barskey of Pottstown says despite cooler temperatures, he and his family are not missing out on anything the borough has to offer, "Trying out some of the different restaurants, having a few beers here and there, we went for a train ride. We'll see what else comes about."

While a break in the weather is good for visitors, businesses say rain or shine, nothing slows down Jim Thorpe.

"The first two weekends were quite rainy, which you think might slow us down, but we still had a tremendous crowd here in town," said Zachary Snider, Marion Hose Bar.

Zachary Snider is a bartender at Marion Hose Bar. He says the weather this weekend should fill the patios at many businesses, "The foliage hasn't quite fallen off yet, so obviously, there's still people coming in to check that out. There's still excursion trains coming, so probably pretty busy; that's what we are thinking."
