CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476) in Carbon County is set to be closed Sunday night for bridge work.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says I-476 will be closed in both directions from 11 p.m. Sunday, March 24, to 4 a.m. Monday between the Mahoning Valley Interchange, Exit 74, and the Route 903 Interchange, Exit 87, Carbon County.
Workers are removing overhead beams from the bridge that carries Hatchery Road/Reservoir Road over the Turnpike at milepost 83 in Penn Forest Township.
The work has been rescheduled from early Sunday because of weather, according to Turnpike officials.
State police and Turnpike personnel will implement the following detours:
Northbound Detour
- Take Route 209 south for 6.5 miles to Route 903 north for 10.4 miles. Re-enter the Turnpike at the Route 903 Interchange, Exit 87.
Southbound Detour
- Take Route 903 south for 10.4 miles to Route 209 north for 6.4 miles. Re-enter the Turnpike at the Mahoning Valley Interchange, Exit 74.
During this road closure, the entry and exit ramps at Hickory Run Service Plaza will be closed to all traffic. Visitors who do not exit the service plaza before 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, will have to remain in the plaza until the work is completed and the ramps are reopened to traffic.
