UPDATE: Authorities say Mason Pachulski, 12, was found around 7 p.m. on Monday. He was reported missing in Carbon County early Monday morning.

Crews in Jim Thorpe are checking on the young man, but he appears to be doing fine.

We have crew on scene in Carbon County and will have more on what happened on later editions of Newswatch 16.

JIM THORPE -- The parents of a boy say he went in the backyard Monday morning to feed some fish and they haven't seen him since.

Now, there's a big search effort underway to find the boy.

For a family in Carbon County it's a terrifying mystery: what happened to their 12-year-old son?

Mason Pachulski disappeared early Monday morning in Jim Thorpe He was last seen by his younger brother right outside his home. His parents said that he went out to feed the fish in his back yard before school and hasn't been seen since.

And now hours later, crews are searching the terrain for any signs of the missing boy.

With helicopters overhead and K-9s on the ground, Jim Thorpe police officers and state troopers search for 12-year-old Mason Pachulski.

His father says his son was last seen at their home.

"He woke up early this morning, went outside to feed the fish, and decided to go around the block. His brother saw him walking out of the house around 7:30 and we haven't seen him since," Keith Pachulski said.

Now Jim Thorpe police are considering this an endangered missing child case, which is different from an Amber Alert because police say there is no evidence he was abducted.

"He was supposed to go in and eat breakfast, be on his way to school, at that point in time, he was discovered by the parents to have been missing," said Jim Thorpe Police Chief Joe Schatz.

Just hours after police were called, friends and family started canvassing the neighborhood, passing out flyers with Mason's photo.

A grandmother says she lives just a few blocks away and wanted to help, so she decided to take a walk and look around.

"I would hope everybody would try to do that, because I know if it was my child, I'd want everybody and anybody looking also," said Paula Weiss.

Hours after Mason went missing, a command center was set up in Jim Thorpe to help coordinate grid searches in the woods behind the family's home. Search and rescue crews, fire department volunteers, and extra officers all gathered, but officers say the woods aren't the only place they're looking for the 12-year-old boy.

"Our officers are interviewing the students, some of his friends over at the school, the principal, things of that nature," explained the police chief.

The Pachulski family says Mason was quiet and kept to himself, but enjoys the outdoors.

"You never think it's going to be you, and here I am standing in front of cameras and talking to you guys," said Keith Pachulski.

Anyone with information is asked to call either the Carbon County 911 center or the local police.

12-year-old Mason Pachulski is about 4'4", approximately 80 pounds, has red hair, and is likely wearing his school uniform khaki shorts and a blue polo.
