PALMERTON, Pa. — Pierogies are on the menu at Blue Mountain Resort near Palmerton this weekend for the Pierogi's and Pints festival. The event is the first of its kind for Blue Mountain Resort and it kicks off Saturday at 11am.
"There's going to be pierogi sampling, 20 draft beers, live music, we'll have craft vendors. Our scenic lift rides will be running on our chair lifts. At the end of the weekend we're going to crown the best pierogi in the traditional, dessert and most creative categories," Ashley Seier said.
The cooks at Blue Mountain Resort are busy getting ready for the festival.
"All in all we anticipate to make about 2,500 pierogies for this festival," Emily Clinebell said.
There will be both savory and sweet options. Blue Mountain Resort is making four different flavors. There will be a boursin cheese pierogi sauteed in sage butter and a goat cheese with caramalized onions.
"For our dessert category we've got a pumpkin puree with a mascarpone cheese. That is sauteed and topped with a caramel bourbon drizzle," Clinebell said.
Another dessert pierogi is fried applie pie, topped with cinnamon and sugar and served with ice cream. Vendors will have many other pierogi and beer options. Tickets range from $12 to $39.
"There's a general admission that just gets you into the festival. There's going to be a lot of other delicious food besides pierogies. There's a Dough Dabbler ticket that gets you six pierogi samples and a Pierogi Pro ticket that gets you eight pierogi samples as well as a commemorative mug and your first beer free," Seier said.
Pierogies and Pints is this Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm at Blue Mountain Resort near Palmerton. The event is open to all ages.
Scenic lift rides will be running on festival days from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased separately at skibluemt.com/lift-rides.
