SUMMIT HILL, Pa. — One woman is charged with theft after taking over $10,000 from a parent-teacher organization in Carbon County.
Officials say the principal of Panther Valley Intermediate School contacted Summit Hill Police in September after noticing funds had been taken from their parent-teacher organization account.
Melissa McCloskey, 34, the PTO's treasurer at the time, met with the principal and told her she had accidentally used $5,000 from the PTO for herself.
The PTO president gave police transaction statements for October 2022 to August 2024, when McCloskey was treasurer.
According to court documents, McCloskey used $11,153.11 for food from Italian restaurants, multiple purchases for retail online stores, ATM withdrawals, payments to her cell phone and home electric provider, and Venmo payments from the former PTO treasurer to McCloskey that were never deposited into the PTO account.
McCloskey's next court date is scheduled for December.
