NESQUEHONING, Pa. — The finishing touches are being done around the Narrow Valley Sportsplex in Nesquehoning.
"Being part of this from the very beginning, it's crazy to look back at pictures at what this was, and how our vision came to life," said Megan Reaman with Narrow Valley Sportsplex.
The building at the intersection of route 209 and 54 was formerly Kovatch Mobile Equipment, a company that built fire trucks.
The first phase of the multi-use sportsplex was completed earlier this year with indoor batting cages and a golf simulator.
"It's crazy to have people come in who have walked through these plants who used to work here who are bringing their kids and being able to say wow I worked over there," explained Reaman.
Now phase two is ready to be shown off to the community this weekend. Some young athletes are the first to break in the new turf with some soccer.
But that's not the only sport, the courts can be used for basketball and volleyball.
"We have 4 pickleball courts we have a two-lane track, 120 x 50 feet of turf and we have a full gym," said Reaman.
Narrow Valley Sportsplex hopes the facility is a big hit with teams and families here in Carbon County.
"We all used to have to travel to go to any of our sports at least an hour away and for my family we were able to do it, it was difficult but so many people can't. So having something like this in a central location such as Nesquehoning it's going to help people have an opportunity," said Reaman.
The grand opening will be held on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
