LEHIGHTON, Pa. — The tents are going up, and the tables are being set at the Ukrainian Homestead near Lehighton.
The grounds may be quiet now, but starting Saturday, Ukrainian culture will take center stage for the homestead's annual festival.
"We would like the public to come out to visit and learn all about Ukrainian music and culture, and of course, the food. Even if you just come for the food, it will be worth it," said Cultural Director Paula Holoviak.
Holoviak says the homestead began this festival several decades ago as a way to celebrate the anniversary of Ukrainian independence.
"We have always kept the culture going here in NEPA for over 100 years. We do, of course, have people displaced by the war, and so I think for them, it's a little bit of home. So, this community is always here to welcome newcomers to NEPA." she said.
Money raised from the festival helps to support people living in Ukraine as Russia's war against Ukraine continues.
"Because of the ongoing war a portion of our proceeds does help with humanitarian aid. Particularly medical aid in Ukraine so we haven't forgotten about the war, so we continue to support the people of Ukraine," said Holoviak.
The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine. Click here for more about the Ukrainian Homestead.
